Financial Controller
Reporting To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Responsibilities:
o Financial Reporting and Compliance:
Prepare and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all financial
statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow
statements, in accordance with International Financial Reporting
Standards (IFRS) and local regulatory requirements.
Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring
adherence to deadlines and accuracy of financial data.
Manage the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations and manage tax filings.
Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance to all statutory deductions and payments.
o General Ledger Management:
Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and
completeness of all transactions.
Perform regular account reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
Ensure accurate coding of financial transactions.
Maintain the chart of accounts.
o Accounts Payable and Receivable Management:
Supervise the accounts payable and accounts receivable teams, ensuring
efficient and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
Monitor and manage vendor and customer relationships.
Implement and maintain effective collection procedures to minimize bad
debt.
Manage petty cash and head office cashier operations.
o Project and Plant Accounting Oversight:
Oversee the financial management of project and plant operations,
ensuring accurate cost tracking and reporting.
Review and approve project and plant budgets and forecasts.
Monitor project and plant performance against budget and provide
variance analysis.
o Internal Controls and Risk Management:
Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets
and ensure the accuracy of financial information.
Identify and assess financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
Ensure proper segregation of duties.
o Team Leadership and Development:
Supervise, mentor, and train finance department staff.
Foster a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to staff.
Ensure the finance team is up to date with new accounting rules.
o Systems and Process Improvement:
Assist in the implementation of the ERP system.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and
accuracy.
Utilize financial software and tools to streamline financial processes.
Qualifications:
o Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
o Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CIMA or ACCA).
o Extensive experience in accounting and financial reporting, preferably in the
construction industry.
o Strong knowledge of IFRS and local accounting standards.
o Proficiency in ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
o Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
o Strong leadership and management skills.
o Knowledge of local tax laws.
